Materials design at the eXascale

The mission is to develop the technologies and make them available for large and growing base of researchers in the materials domain. The goals are achieved by:

  • bringing the most successful and widely used open-source, community codes in quantum simulations of materials towards exascale and extreme scaling performance
  • enabling the convergence of high-performance and high-throughput computing with high-performance data analytics in the materials domain
  • co-designing activities to ensure that future HPC architectures are well suited for materials domain applications and viceversa
  • widening the access to codes and engaging academic and industrial communities, by providing workflows and turn-key solutions and also training for broader and different pool of users and developers.

National Centre for HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing

The mission of Spoke 7 is to enhance Italian leadership in the development, implementation, and distribution of scientific high-performance software for the multi-scale simulation of complex materials and molecular systems; it will also be targeted to optimising and broadening the application spectrum of these software systems, to tackle the scientific, technological, and social challenges of our country. Furthermore, Spoke 7 will activate and facilitate access to massive computation resources by public and private subjects, for applications of new materials to emerging technologies, and will direct efforts of molecular and materials scientific research towards strategic applications identified by the PNRR.

Rome Technopole

Spoke 2 objective is the promotion of industrial valorization of research’s results with respect to both internal and external entities and stakeholders, taking into account:

  • to activate, support, encourage and test the actions necessary for the exploitation of the results of research developed in universities and research centers located in the regional territory for the maturation of the “Technology Readiness Level” (TRL) of research products from TRL 4 to TRL 6 towards industrialization and marketing, with specific focus on the involvement of the stakeholder boards through the creation of communities on the three smart specialization areas (EnT, DgT, H&BP) and of focus groups on specific subtopics
  • to activate, support, encourage and test the actions necessary for the exploitation of the results of research developed in universities and research centers located in the regional territory for the maturation of the “Technology Readiness Level” (TRL) of research products from TRL 4 to TRL 6 towards industrialization and marketing
  • studying and testing new technology transfer models to make it manageable by integrating it with industrial research and experimental development activities. Objectives are to reduce economic, technical, and scientific risks and reduce the time to market of research.

Yambo code

The mission is studying the excited state properties of condensed matter systems from first principles using many-body methods.

The mission is extending the ultra-fast HHG technology to solids, thus opening the path to the study of attosecond processes in extended materials.

APhRICA is an innovative initiative, put in place by an international network, with the active participation of academic institutions and research centers from Rwanda and Kenya. The ultimate goal is to build a bridge between young African scholars, Europe and some of its excellent institutions.
